The Brockville
Concert Association is proud to present the 10th annual 1000
Islands Jazz Festival.
The
1000 Islands Jazz Festival has become a premiere jazz destination
rightfully earning the title of the “Best Small Jazz Festival
in Canada”.
This year’s festival is dedicated to its founder, John Hollinghurst who passed in December 2009.
The
nine day festival has headlined many of Canada’s finest
and rising jazz artists in various Main Stage Concerts, and Heritage
Concerts.
The Main Stage features a range of top jazz performance. Jill Barber is a superb Canadian jazz vocalist with a blossoming career. Brandi Disterheft is one of the brightest young stars of Canadian jazz. The big splash this year will be the legendary Glenn Miller Orchestra recreating the big band sound back in Brockville. These last two events have been designated memorial concerts for John Hollingshurst, founder of the 1000 Islands Jazz Festival .
The Heritage Series features small jazz duo, trios and quartets in the warm, intimate settings of charming historic buildings. Jenna Glatt opens the festival at a free concert at Tait’s Bakery. Canadian jazz piano legend, Brian Browne performs with saxophonist Peter Woods at the Fulford Place Mansion. The seasoned duo of Mark Ferguson on piano and Mike Tremblay on saxophone will fill the Brockville Museum with jazz. Popular performer, Georgette Fry brings her gritty jazz and blues to the First Presbyterian Church.
New this year is Jazz At the Jail which puts the vibrant Shuffle Demons in the Atrium of the Brockville Courthouse.
An expanded Education Program will give more young people a positive exposure to great jazz. Over five hundred students will be entertained and educated by Jenna Glatt and Dino DiNicolo.
