Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Jill Barber's smoky, soulful voice with its distinctive jazz phrasing has made her a kind of alt-cabaret favourite. She brings her winning mix of jazz, folk and country to the 1000 Islands Jazz Festival.

Her sultry voice and heart-felt songwriting evokes a bygone, romantic era yet comes from today's world. If you believe they don't write songs like they used to, here is new hope for old romantics in Jill's songs.

Jill was born and raised in Toronto, but now makes her home in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A seasoned performer she has grown a fan base across North America, Australia and the UK, Jill gained acclaim as a 2008 double-Juno nominee and multiple East Coast Music Award winner.

The Brockville Arts Centre is the perfect setting for an evening with Jill Barber who will transport you back to another time and place. "The best songs ever written are the ones that somehow transcend time and fashion," says Jill. "They may be old, but they haven't aged. It is that timeless quality that I aspire to in my own songwriting."
